i'm going going back back to frisco
moved out of my berkeley place today. it was disgustingly hot, plus all the dust everywhere from packing things equals yechhh. there were also two nosy ass black cats creeping around everywhere. they were kinda cute and i was petting them a lot, but then lina said that they had been lying in their litter box a lot. i need a shower.

i can't believe i'm never going to wake up in that room again, hungover and annoyed at the noises of construction next door AND construction across the street. at my downstairs roommate listening loudly to the SAME chinese pop song over and over again. at another roommate talking loudly on the phone in the hallway right outside my door at 8 am. at ANOTHER roommate stomping around the house with his heavy footsteps. at having to get up early to go to a bullshit class (ethnic studies 101b).

ever see that movie "less than zero" with andrew mccarthy and james spader (i think that's who's in it...maybe robert downey jr)? last night i went to a party that was straight out of that first party scene, except without the coke. it was at this massive house in orinda, around the pool, with all these young kids. i sat down at the hookah, and one of biff's friends said "who are you?" -- it was a very alice in wonderland moment. i was like um i'm biff's friend, and he was like "i know, but who are you?" it was a strange way of asking me about myself, and i don't recommend using it. but it was a gorgeous night up in the orinda hills, where you could actually see stars in the sky. the party was mildly entertaining (i played and lost that drinking game beirut).

so i'm back at home. my house is way too small for the accumulated things of TWO twenty something girls, so everyone is a little cranky, and my dad is on a house-fixing rampage to accommodate all our stuff. i just want to lay around and watch "mrs. parker and the vicious circle" and maybe "st. elmo's fire." i'm trying to convince my parents to retire in berkeley. when we went to chez panisse, they were really taken with that area. it would be so cool to live in one of berkeley's nicer spots.

anyways, back to unpacking madness. i'm leaving for DC june 8 if anyone wants to kick it before then.

biff: "what's two times two?" me: *drunken groan*
i've been partying like it's my birthday for about a week straight. "one must always be drunk."

i was pretty sad to leave berkeley (and my college life) on saturday, but luckily i drowned my sorrows with kimi, biff, et. al on fillmore that night. tequila awaited us once again, but this time vodka quickly followed suit. we ended the night at mel's ("MEL'S! ON VAN NESS!!" i know nina hates that one) with talk of "animal style" everything, a toast to immigrants, and a disgusting plate of "wet fries." i cannot believe i consumed something with the name "wet fries." only god knows how i got home that night (i owe you one!). red lights can't stop me!

i chilled with my mom yesterday. we saw "down with love," which i enjoyed. very fluffy. ewan not as cute as in moulin rouge. there was this good line in there: "the men i work with resent my success and won't give me the time of day, while the men who respect my success won't give me the time of night."

i had my second homecooked dinner last night at my grandma's. it was great. i like my independence, but there is really nothing like a good homecooked meal. i met up with kimi and biff again later on polk at the hemlock tavern in an unprecedented second night of partying with kimi and biff. after an obscenely large shot (it was really two shots) of tequila followed by another half shot of the same, we moved the party to north beach. i proceeded to get extremely drunk at fuse, while kimi worked her game on biff's visiting friend. i don't remember much of what happened after fuse, but they tell me that they stopped at nezario's (i slept in the car). i woke up in biff's bed this morning with hangover3000 and having to coax myself into not throwing up. i felt nauseous the entire morning until we went to irving street cafe where i gorged myself with eggs, hash browns, and sausages ("lisa likes sausage, hehe" -- biff).

some highlights of the night:
"you look really pretty when i'm drunk" -- biff to me
"i wanna be on your cusp" -- me to biff
"if you wanna be a journalist, you have to be a drunk" -- biff, as she slid over a drink
"i'm gonna get it. i CAN get it!" -- kimi, who did get it
"i fooled you all!" -- me to kimi, about really just pretending to be drunk

RIAA is the recording industry association of america--

RIAA ADMITS PIRACY GOOFS

The RIAA sent out more than two dozen letters this week apologizing for incorrectly targeting colleges suspected of posting copywritten music on their servers. One of the warnings arrived at Penn State University, accusing professors of posting songs by R&B singer USHER on a university-hosted site. The RIAA had mistakenly zeroed in on and linked an MP3 of a song by a group of astronomers about a satellite posted by an astrophysics professor emeritus named Peter Usher. In addition to the apology, the RIAA intends to send the professor an Usher CD and T-shirt.

essence of freesia in two sentences:

"how often do you hear snoop dogg say 'fuck you, bitch'? it's rare."

One must always be drunk.

Everything lies in that; it is the only question worth considering. In order not to feel the horrible burden of time which breaks your shoulders and bows you down to earth, you must intoxicate yourself without truce -- but with what?

With wine, poetry, art? As you will; but intoxicate yourself.

And if sometimes upon the steps of a palace, or upon the green grass of a moat, or in the sad solitude of your own room, you awake -- intoxication already diminished or disappeared - ask of the wind, of the wave, of the star, of the bird, of the clock, of all that flies, of all that groans, of all that rolls, of all that sings, of all that speaks - ask, what time is it?

And the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock, will answer you, "It is time to intoxicate yourself."

In order to escape from the slavish martyrdom of time, intoxicate yourself; unceasingly intoxicate yourself; with wine, or poetry, or art - as you will.

fan mail

i got this today in response to a column i wrote in my high school paper four years ago:

Hi Lisa,

Apologies ahead of time, if this intrudes upon your
time. No, I'm not a stalker (famous last words). I
recently stumbled upon an article you wrote "Half
Chinese, half Filipino, all American, and proud of
it". I plugged in your name, and it led me to this
email address, so I figured I'd write. I can totally
relate to many of the points you made. I'm actually
"wholly" chinese, born in the heart of manhattan. It
does suck quite a bit when people expect you to be a
certain way. Although I respect my background, and
even cherish it in some ways, it doesn't automatically
depict or define who I am. I grew up in a very
"white" neighborhood. It's always been and continues
to be a struggle to fit in, just because I'm not
"chinese" enough or "american" enough. You don't hear
a whole lot about asian discrimination... but it
exists unfortunately. How about just human? I figure
i'm a decent human, even a really nice one! I too,
get really tired of preconcieved expectations of a
person I look like. It stinks people don't take the
time to find out how multi-faceted an individual can
be. I don't know who to blame for it, or if anyone
can be blamed for it. Is it just human nature to
judge? In a part-time job I held a while back... I
had to deal with someone writing a check to pay for
something.. their ID didn't match anything on the
check. So I called the manager, and I was accused of
being racist.. because you chinks are all alike. That
infuriated me... it didn't matter what race the other
person was.. but it did remind me how things haven't
changed very much. I pride myself on giving people a
fair shake independent of backgrounds or general
opinions, and I'd wish more people would.

Ok, I just babbled a lot. I just wanted to say thanks
for addressing some of this stuff in your writings and
participating in causes that educate.

Thanks for reading...

Tom :)

today wasn't that bad. yes, i did get caught in the rain in flimsy slippers and without an umbrella. yes, i ran into the guy i blogged about two entries ago, and he made me feel pretty shitty about applying to only one grad school and that one grad school being berkeley. he even called me "stupid" a few times, which was really uncalled for considering that we rarely see each other (plus he's not even graduating on time, so why is he getting on my ass for not going to grad school? lesson learned: don't ever idealize guys. they'll only let you down). but after i put on some warm socks and my pjs, and had some french vanilla coffee in my friendly yellow mug, i'm alright.

yesterday anne and i had a bite at naan n curry for dinner and then we traipsed over to amoeba where i found the beatles anthology 8-tape box set on VHS for $30. i believe it sells for around $99 or something regularly. it was such a steal, i had to buy it. i remember taping all 20 hours or whatever when the whole thing was on PBS in high school. it's a really good series if you're a beatles fan. i guess i'm a pretty big beatles fan. george is my favorite (i love "something," "while my guitar gently weeps," and "here comes the sun"), but i think i'm most like john (he died ten days before i was born; i like to think a bit of him is reincarnated in me). the one i'm most attracted to is stu (the bass player who left to pursue an art career but then died from a brain hemorrhage--"backbeat" is a great movie, no joke), who is, as they say in england, "well fit." so anne and i watched the first video, which covers from when they were born to when they got together up until their first number one single ("please please me"). so between that, six hours of "manor house," the "90210" reunion on sunday, and the "dawson's creek" series finale, i'm all set for TV for the rest of the month at least.

i better get to writing my paper. must really stay on task in these last few weeks. it is so easy to avoid work, especially with these 7 beatles videos staring at me.

oh, and i got a job offer to be a newspaper reporter. ask me about it, it's a good story. :)

mandatory kimi reference in my blog:

preshpupp (10:40 PM): hahah what ichyrahchu know bout imatcheroo son?!?

ADULT SUPERVISORY WARNING: those under 18 should not read the following blog for fear of poisoning your mind with thoughts of naughty things. unless you're under 18 and you've already had sex, at which point it would be alright to continue. oops, i probably should not have even written the word "sex." oops i did it again. i played with your heart. got lost in the game. dah! must concentrate and not be distracted with pithy britney spears lyrics. anyways, the following blog may be unhealthy for those with a heart condition, pregnant women, young children, stanfurd students, girls who work at bebe, and christians. except for christians who have sex, and even then, maybe only a handful.

so in keeping with the theme that i opened this blogging nonsense with back in february (namely the question of where to find guys), i'll throw out this new question: where does one have sex in berkeley?

seems like a fairly straightforward and easily answerable question, yet upon closer inspection, it warrants some deep thought. so, move closer to your sceen and inspect it further. yes that's good. now move back to original position. (i think i'm being clever right now, and I AM!!! I INVENTED THE KEYBOARD NECKTIE!!!)

this is what i mean: most people at cal share rooms with others. it is rare for anyone to have their own room. so where do people have sex? of course, there is the coordinating of nights/days/nights and days with one's roommate, which works fine. but what about a random instance of wanting to have AND being in a position of being ABLE to have unplanned sex? what if roommate is already sleeping? what do you do?? where do you go? what becomes of you?

i'll have to do some more investigations, polls, focus groups, and, of course, field work on this topic. please do NOT contact me if you want to help me with this study. i will contact YOU.
